Why we wanted to become a climate neutral company

Greenhouse gases are evenly distributed in the atmosphere and we all ensure that there is more every day. It therefore makes sense to avoid emissions where the costs are lowest. In addition, projects in developing and newly industrialising countries help to improve the economic, social and ecological situation and support the realisation of the sustainability goals of the United Nations. For emerging and developing countries, emissions trading is a key driver for the transfer of clean technologies and sustainably oriented economic development.

Why was it important for us to become climate neutral? Because we understood what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) conclusively sets out: Avoiding emissions costs only 0.6 % of annual value added, while repairing the damage costs many times as much if we continue "as before".

We are aware of our special responsibility towards future generations and have therefore acted accordingly. The impact on the climate associated with our company has made Fokus Zukunft GmbH & Co. KG has determined the climate impact for us: Our events and travels generate approximately 5 tons of CO2 equivalent pollutants per year. Accordingly, by purchasing 16 certificates, we have completely offset our emissions for the years 2018-2020. To illustrate: Every citizen causes an average of about 10 tons of CO2 per year through his or her lifestyle.

We are not trying to buy ourselves free through certificates, but we are staying on topic!

In our everyday life we try to act as climate-friendly as possible. This concerns the selection of our suppliers (where we buy), the decision about what and if we buy something, up to daily considerations how to get to the respective seminar location and whether an online training could be an alternative. Dr. Ulrich Wiek rejects domestic German flights completely. In our daily office routine we try to avoid plastic as much as possible and use recycled products wherever possible.
